My Dear Nila I now take my pen in hand to write you a few lines to let you know that I still think of you all though I get no letters from you all though I ment to say that I had received one letter from you since Erastus was over to Taylers well Nila you say that I am not half spunkey aneough well now I think you are mistaken about my spunk but Nila you know that we are engaged in a war and we are both and either of us liable to get killed and I dont feel as though I should not feel right to have a fuss with him and then be called intwo battle for you / know that here in the army and things are different from what they are at home but Nila I feel that as keen as you and if I ever live to get home I tell you that these things will all be settled if the lord spairs our lives to return home and I think that he is ashamed of it now but shame will not pay the poark and potatoe bill with me for I have got a wife and two children and now I shall strive to take care of my self and family I am in hopes that we shall live to get home and then we will go and make a grand visit but you write that you se by the papers that I was to get 18 dolars a month but I cant se it or at least we dont know / aney thing about it we saw that senator Willson was trying to get the bill pased to give us that but we have not seen that it ever passed so we expect to get the great and enormos sum of thirteen dollars a month I was on patrole at Harpers Ferry yesterday and it has rained hear a most all day but I have not had to Drill nor do aney thing I shall close now for to night but will finish tomorow tuesday night
