My Dear wife as it is the last time that I can write to you this year and as our paper man has ben round and gave me this sheet of paper I thought that it would be a fine time for me to write a few lines to my dear wife and so hear goes for a few words well in the first place it has rained all the time for about one week but last night it commenced to snow and this morning thare was some four or five inches of as nise snow as ever you set eyes on but I suppose you have seen snow / enough before this time this winter if not I think you will before spring if not just write and let me know for you know that it is the last day of the week and the last day of the month and the last day of the year so you see that we have three lasts all in one day and as it storms hear and has all day and continues to I have stayd in my tent all day excepting to go out to eat and be musterd in so they ow me eight months pay and so I think that I shall get some pay some time if I live and now Nila what shall you do with the money when it comes to you who will you let have it till I gett home for you sayd that you should / save all that you could and Nila I think that you will and now nila if I send home fiftey dollars I ask you who you would let have it and now Nila be fair and tell your own all just whoo you think of trusting with your money and wont you pleas write and let me know when you get it but when I get paid off I will send some home right away just as soon as I can get to the express office for I shall not send it by letter for if it should get lost then it is all lost and I had rather pay more than to loos it well Nila I shall have to stop for it is amost taps and then the lights have to be put out so good night for to night I will se tomorrow /

well Nila I now seat my self to write you a few lines as it is the first day of a new year and hear I am in this Hospital and alive and doing well that is as far as my arm is doing tip top and will soon be readey for servise and then you know that I am off for the regiment for that is the place for all that are able to be thare and as soon as that comes you may expect to hear from me in the regt but you shall hear from me as often as I can find time and paper and the other nessessary things and when I get paid off I mean to lay in a good supply of writing material so that I can write all the time that I can gett for I am going to write often it has ben a fine day hear to day and I hope it has ben the same at Home with you

well Nila what are you up to to night and how is the weather in old windsor and vacinaty for you know that I want to know all that is going onn up thear if I am in Pa well Nila my health is good and arm is doing well at present it is not all healed up yett but is getting small for if I had a twenty five cent piece it would cover it all up now so you se that it is doing well for it would take more than one or two to cover it then but it is narrow but long up and down my arm but is amost done up for this time and soon I shall go front
