My Dear wife I now seat my self to try and write you a line or two so as to keep you easey as far as hearing from me is concearned but I should like to hear from you and the Children but I cant say how long we shall stay hear we started day before yesterday and went down to Alexandria and about four we went abord of a steamer and we lay thare till morning then we started down the potomac and we got down some two milds and the ice was so thick that we could not get aney further so we / got stuck in the ice and the old ice boat had to come and breake the ice for us so that we could get turned round and it tuck us 6 hours to get back to the wharf and we came back to the old camp hear our steamer broke out a most all of her floats in the wheals so we had hard work and it snowed and was awful cold and windey but we all lived through it and I thank god for life and health my arm has broke out again but is not bad and has scabed over again so you must not worry about that and now Nila I have ben hear over two weaks and have had no letters / but I will not complain for had I known that I should of stayd hear so long I should have had you wrote to me and when you get this if you can sen one right off do so for I want to hear from you and you may Direct to
