My Dear wife I now seat my self to write you a few lines to let you know that I am still alive and well and hope that this may find you the same and I hope that I shall soon get whear I can gett a letter from you for I want to hear how you and the Children are this winter and how you gett along without aney money for I suppose you are aware that I have not sent aney money home for a long time and I have a good reason for not doing it and the reason is that I have not ben paid one cent since I sent you five Dollars last august and I begin to think that you may suffer for the want of money but I dont know how I can help it but one thing I do know that if you can live on what you have had this winter and I ever get my pay that you can have some things that you have done with out and I hope to get to the regt so as to get musterd in / for pay the last of this month for we expect to leave this camp in the morning for our regts and I hope that we shall get through this time and not get stuck in the mud or ice as we did before but when I get to aney place that I can write I will do so and you may write and Direct to the regt as you did Oh Nila I sent my old Diary home I suppose it started to day and when you write you will pleas say wheather you have received it or not as I should lik to know for I paid 12 cents and then you know that I dont want to loose the old Book but the 12 cents is money well you know that the Goverment owes me ten months pay the last of this month and I hope to get it some time if I live and if not you kneed it but I hope and prey God will spair my life and that of my little family and that we shall meet again on earth and spend maney happey hours and days and months and years I thank God for life and health
