My Dear wife
I now seat my self to write you a few lines to send some time but when I shall send it I cant tell for I have no postage stamps and could not get them if I had ever so much money but then we have just had a Corps review we wer reviewed by U S Grant and Ord and Edwin M Stanton and Lady I dont know as she had much intrest in it but we had a good time of it we went over to / head Quarters Devision
the news hear is that Sheridan has cut all the lines round Richmond and if that is so then we are prettey safe and sound we have a good place hear but cant hear from My Nila quite as often as I should like but then I shall have to put up with it I suppose for I dont know how I shall avoid it at present but I hope to live to get out of this and have this war settled up some time and that soon but we must wait for events to bring us all right and now I must read the papers /

Well Nila I will now write you a few more lines as we have just had a Batallion Drill and I am feeling prettey good just at the present time and I think that I should like to give you a good strong Hugg and then a hug all togather would not that be Magnifiy but enough what are you up to this good spring weather for it is verry nice hear and warm we can lay all most Naked hear but then we dont for fear you know that the Johnies might just step in and find us unprepaird to receive companey for you know that wont / do for Soldiers in Uncl Sam And so we have to keep our clothes onn that is the most of them pleas write and let me know how Jane and all the rest of the folks are up in your part of the world for I dont hear aney thing from them no more than as though they wer all dead and not verry often from you but I suppose you write as often as I do but I dont get them for I write half a dozen whare I get one but then let it go for I shall make it up if I ever get home
