Dear Nila I now take my pen in hand to write you afew lines to let you know that I am still alive and well and hope you are the same and all of the rest of our friends but as you say how fast we are all hurrying to the grave whence none ever return thear is not mutch sickness in our regiment just now but some but I thank god that he has ben so kind to me and mine and has spaird our lives and health / while he has called so maney to try the sad reaiteys of another world but enough of this Nila for I do not think it best to spend all our time brooding over our troubles but let us look away to the sweet promises that are layd up for those that love the Lord and serve him and now I must tell you that thear has three of our Companies gonn away and I dont know whear they are but not far I think for one that was sick come in to day I think they are on pickett and will stay three days they went last night / but I could not go go with them for the Colonell would not let me for I have the honor to belong to the Collors gard if honor it can be called and he said to me for I went to him my self to find out if I might go but he said no no I want you and all the rest of the guard to stay with the Collors and stick to them so you know that Mr Collor guard had to stay and hear I am to night writing to you in the Lieut tent for Sargant Lilly and I have ben making out the muster roles to day and thear is a stove in hear /
well Nila hear goes fo the rest of this sheet not the sheet for a bed but a paper sheet well well I suppose you are at work at making shugar well I wish I was thear long enough to gett a taist of shugar and you oh how I would bite you dont you feel it now well you may imagin that I am a biting you now oh you wrote me some time ago that Eliza was going to give me a scolding well you tell her that I want it no more for the Drums have beet for Role Call and I must apear your Husband
