The so called Straglers Camp
My Dear wife I now take my pencil to inform you that I am still alive and well that is I am so much better than when I wrote before to you that I call my self well I am some lame and sore but am doing well now Nila they have sent us up hear to what they call the straglers camp and I am prettey mad to be called a stragler for it is the first time that I ever went to the doctor since I joined the regiment the regiment has ben in another fight but with what luck I dont know when I gett paid I will write you some more of our exploits oh have you / ever got that blankett that I sent to Pittsfiel and the other things Harrison was wounded at Piedmont and do you hear aney thing about Jerry or Johney Johney was at Newmarkett wounded the last that I heard from him and Jerry was sent back to Martinsburg and that is the last that I know of him
Harpers Ferry the 23 well Nila we have got out of that old Camp we are now on Camp Hill near whear we used to be last night thear was one of the Captains of the 5 new york came over to whear we wer and said he was orderd to take all of the 34th mass and 18 Connetticutt over to Camp hill and we wer right glad well well when we got over hear the Colo came out to se us and wanted to know how we wer as for / rations we told him just how we had ben used and what we had ben called and he said that we should have our rations and enough to and clothing for some of us are all bare ased to speak plain and you know that is my stile I am one of the luckey ones I drawed a pair of new pants when we left the ferry in Aprill and they are good now and some have had 2 pairs and are all out now but enough of this my distemper is better and I hope it will leave me now and now Nila dont worry about me for I think that I shall gett along first rate that is if I ever gett paid off and I guess you will begin to want to se some money from me soon I fear you do not have enough to make yourself Comfortable but you must take / from that at Newtons for you must live Thomas Taylor was hit by a splinter from his the gun in the eye and sent back he was hit at Newmarket and I dont know whear he is when I get rested and get some ink and paper I will write you all the details pleas write soon from your own old
