Dear Nila as I have just got the with in letter and in reply to it I would say that I thank god for your health and that of my hole familey and my own two we have ben trying to gett the enemy to advance on us this after noon but they decline to do it while in our present position we are strongley intrenched hear and hold all the best positions for artillery while they have verry little elevation of ground to plant their artillery we are expecting an atact at aney time and when it may come god onley knows and what the result will be / we cannot see but hope for the best but if they defeat us hear they will fight hard for it now I tell you the Boys are anxious to meet them and have this thing settled and we are confident that we shall be sucsessfull and I hope and prey god that we may we have a large forse hear now I have ben over to the 37 Regiment again to day they lay right behind us about ¼ of a mild you write about Peter Baker he is hear all right in good health and hearty Hamlin Ford I dont know aney thing about nor can I find out aney thing respecting him onley he was wounded badley and it is the opinion of the men that saw him that he could not live from your Hupsom old
