Nila here I am on guard again this is the seckond time that I have ben on since I got back here but that is nuthing you know I can do it as long as aney of them that cant do it aney longer than I can the boys got back last night and was tired and foot sore they went 105 milds up the shanandoa valley and came verry near beaing surrounded but slipped the Mr Johney Rebbs by building up great campfires and then retreating and the rebs did not know that they wer gonn till the next / day at noon and then our boys wer out of the way of them some of them had no shoes on when they came back and some of them that had wer so lame that they could hardley step Erastus was not out with them when I got back here I had to be ordile and sergant and se to all the business I had 11 men here to tend the Boys wer all glad to se me and I shoock hands so much that I was tired there is 2 of the recruiting party on guard with me now 1 Sergant and 1 Corp'l Erastus sold my buckskin gloves that I left here when I went home and got the pay for them the boys / are all well and smart but the Whittmans and they never will be good for aney thing here
 
I have got to go and se to the guard now so Good night
 
kiss the Children for me and tell them to kiss Mother for father I have not ben out of camp since I got back Thomas Talor is well and all the rest that you know
