My Dear wife I now take this gold pen the property of Mr robbins to pen you a few lines to let you know that I am still alive and well and hope you are the same and I got your letter yesterday and was glad to hear that you wer all well and smart but about Erastus you say that you saw it in the paper now what paper did you se it in for I have watched the papers that we have hear but I shall write to / the regiment and se if I can learn aney thing about him and if I knew whear Ralph Joslyn was I would write to him but you wrote that he was at the Naval school and wheather it is the Naval hospital or not I dont know and as soon as I can find out aney thing about Erastus I will let you know of it My health is good my arm is doing well I have had it burnt three times and shall have it smoothed of some time I guess but not quite yet it snowes hear like funn to night but I think it will rain before morning and I hope it will for I / dont want to se aney snow this winter but I suppose I shall have to se it and so I will try and make the best of it we are expecting to have an examination hear soon some of the wards have ben examined now and have sent some men off but I am not afraid of their sending me off yett not if they keep me hear as long as they have those that they are sending off now but if I am able to go to the regiment I had rather go than to stay hear but shall stay till they want to send me but I shall do no guard duty hear I think now but cant tell what I may do yett / we had one man taken from our tent and put on guard but I must close for my stock of newes is running low it is reported hear that sherman has taken savanah but it is not confirmed yett that is we have not got it yett
just say to Mother that I will do all that I can to find out aney thing about Erastus and shall write often as I can and you can just say to father and mother Crittenden that I have not forgotten them but have written to them since I got back and have not heard from them onley by you
