My Dear wife I now take my pen in hand to write you a few lines as I have time and nuthing else to do and so I will spend a few moments in writing to the woman of my chois and I thank God that I made the choise that I did in my younger days and I prey God that she may be spaird to me and my Children as long as I live and I prey that God will spair us both to each other for maney years to come I got a letter from Jacob Martin yesterday he said Serg't Pomoroy and Clark had got back to the / regiment and I am glad for they have ben gon long enough to get back but never mind them you are anxious about when I shall come home again but I dont believe I shall be able to get another furlough but if I dont it is but a little over seven months more before I shall be at home if God spairs my life and health and that you know is not long and as it costs money to travel I think that I had better stay hear and not try to get another furlough now Nila dont you think that I am right and as my health is good and arm doing well I think that if you are well at Home that I had better stay till / my time is out and then I can stay as long as you pleas to keep me and then I can enlist again if you want but I know that my Nila will want that I shall stay as long as I live and I hope that I shall behave so that you will want me to stay with you for a long time and I think I will stay if we gett along prettey well togather and I guess that we could dont you Nil I have written to Mother and and have got no answer and I wrote to your Father but have not heard from them my throat has got amost well now and I feel first rate give my love to all and keep your part
