            Dear Brother
I now seat my Self to write you a few lines. I am in good health at this time and can but hope those few lines wil find you all well I recd your letter a few days ago and was wel pleased to hear from you and hope that you wil not forget to write often. I have not heard from home for a long time I do not no what to make of it even my old gal is playing off on me. my Our Regt went up to white River and was consolidated with the 120th OV while we were gone the Rebs came in and killed some of the U. S. Soldiers / of African dcent and we were ordered back in quick time to save their black pates the only pitty it is that they did not kill all of them for they are fit for nothing but to eat up rations. we are now under marching orders for Memphis the Regt is out on a scout and as quick as it comes in we are to go so it is reported

I suppose Lincoln is re elected commander of a fraction of the U. S. So we can make up our minds for 4 years more of war and blood Shed

I have nothing new nor strange to write so I wil close by asking you to write soon and often
