Dear Colonel Nov. 5. 1866
The present commander at San Antonio Hall is on duty there as Colonel of a Regt of colored troops (volunteers) at the time Genl Shenden & myself were stationed at Fort Duncan this officer was a Sargeant in my Regiment (1st Arty) He is more a 1st Lieut.in the same Regt. I am willing to go anywhere but for me to report to the officer referred to would be pretty rough. Genl ______ seemed very desirous of retaining the 1st Battalion here instead of the 3d. As the General comg the Dept may be prevented from paying us the promised visit to morrow I thought there would be no harm in writing to you on the subject. If he comes here I shall see him in person. If not will you mention the subject to him unofficially & oblige
Yours Very Truly
