Joseph Warren Hutt
Joseph Warren Hutt was born around May 1829 in Westmoreland County, Virginia, to William and Elizabeth Hutt. His father was a circuit court clerk who owned $2,197 of real estate by 1850. He grew up in Cople Parish, Virginia, and by 1850, he was working as a deputy clerk. He married Elizabeth Ellen Costin on March 8, 1854, and they had at least eight children: Mungo, born around 1859; Joseph, born around 1861; Constance, born around 1864; William, born around 1867; John, born around 1872; Clayborne, born around 1874; George, born around 1875; and Bradley, born around 1879. By 1860, he was working as a “clerk of the court,” and he owned $2,000 of real estate and $2,325 of personal property.
 
During the Civil War, he served as colonel of the 111th Virginia Militia. By 1870, he was living in Montross, Virginia, and he owned $2,500 of real estate and $400 of personal property. His wife died on February 1, 1894, and he married Amanda Hungerford on October 2, 1895. He died in Montross on January 14, 1907.
