Miles A. Comstock to George M. B., undated
look at this side first

the weather has been verry nice & warm till now & today it is a little blustry. we have had a little snow & one frost that al that i have seen since i have been in old V.A. the health of the army about hear is as good as can be expected although their is a greate many sick the most of them is agoing to Baltimore & Philadelphia to the Hospitles. if a man is sick in the army i say that he does really suffer for the want of care & attendance a many a one has died on the account of the care & nothing else if a man gets sick hear then he is left behind & is said to him that he is of no account now & perhaps the Doctor will give him a dose of something that will kill him any how / if i should get sick i dont know what i would do but i intend to keep a stiff uper lip & perhaps that will prevent me from it if a man gets sick hear he has to skin his own eels & so it is. i say some times die dog or eat the hatchet

now George i think that i have wrote about 3 cts. worth & so i will quit for this time but in conclusion i will say that betwixt you & i

i really think tis prety near time to take another drink

                                                Yours &c
