October the 4th /62 here is a letter I got from Clemana quite a letter put it in with the rest of my letters. the was a Order read yesterday that they air agoing to grant passes for 20 to 60 days now soon but it costs to much for me to come home So I shall not try to come Wet Cox said he was agoing to try and get one. I should like to be at home & spend the winter but it will cost to much to come home. henry more is getting quite smart again he will be able for duty in a forghtneight if he keeps on ganing as fast as he has for a while he is here he came up from the hospital a foot. Bill Wimple is Sargent I gues from all appearence. Coll Crane is here his Seth does not like the mach I guess by his appearance does not say much Bill sais tell John Brown that he calculated to come & see him but did not get round. the report is the Rebs is agoing to open on us to morrow but I guess no danger

Saturday Aug 13th/62
            Dear Cousin
                                    I received your letter Wednesday 10 & we were very glad to here from you & to here you had got well again. I have written to you twice I believe & have had no answer untill It now. I suppose you havent herd that Ed has enlisted he has enlisted to fill up that an old Regiment the 9th New York Cavelry that Regt that Histeds boys went in he enlisted in Jamestown he started for the Regt last Monday. They was a Regt started for Harrisburg last Wednesday from Erie Mr Loomis has got up a company Charley Pratt Jim Spencer Phin Babcock Jim Marshall & all the rest of the boys have enlisted & there is a Cavelry / Company at Erie now they expect to start for some place in a few days Mr Heath talks of getting up a company in North East all the men from 16 to 50 have got to go they organized yesterday that all the men must turn out and drill every day that all the shops must be closed & every thing they have got to get ready for them old Seceshers down ther the report is that they there is two hundred thousand rebels in the state they are in harrisburg now and they expect a battel there you will all have to come home to fight yet. Henry Elliott enlisted in Loomis Company & after he got home and got to thinking about it he was crazy about it as a bed bug he pretended he thought it wasent right for him to go and kill his fellow men he took on about it like a little wagon he said it was right for any body els to go but it wasent right for him to go because he was a preacher he acted like a fool about it & had three or four fits & the day they went up to Camp they went from the villiage they had speeches to the villiage & then started for Camp they went with teems Henry went up to camp & there found a substitute & he came home the same day he went they had an examination to the villiage the other day henry went down to be / examined & they wasent agoing to exempt him and he showed them his buns and then they he was clear from a draft
 
            Mr Belnap & Charley are a thrashing this fall Net told me to give her best respects to you & to tell you she had wrote to you O! I liked to forgot to tell you the news Deliah Babcock is married to a Mr Newton & Elmina Spencer is married to a Mr Putnam he is in Loomis Company Eph I wish you would send me your likeness tell Em to write to me and I will answer back that I would be very glad to except of his likeness Ma sends her love to you and Emory Now write soon so Good bye      write often and all the news
