                                                                                                                        Dear Wife
            Again with anxious Heart I write haveing No! letter from you to answer. Why! it is I do not know. Somtimes I think all are sick and somtimes I think you are from home and somtimes I dont know what to think. I will not conclude you are dead until I hear it. But I am surely very uneasy and shall / be until I hear Nothing in this world is like suspense and when you remember that I am so far from home all those I love you will not laugh at me for being childish about Home and you would write if you had to do as I, beg the material to write with. O! Please Do! Write oftener. My Dear Companion.
 
I have no news of interest to you except that we fired one hundred Guns over the fall of Charleston. its gone up and soon the whole Rebbel Confederacy will go up. (down) to H—ll /
 
Well we are building nice hewed log houses to go live in and it is supposed that we will stay here some time
 
            I am doing the fine work, making tables, desks &c. have a nice time. no one to trouble me work when I please and play when I please I got a pass to day for 30 days to go where I want to.
 
Those fellows I arrested when I was at Indianapolis that time are sour. But I dont care. they dare not interrupt me and they know it—
 
Well its almost mail time and I must hurry over /
