Luke C. Warren to Nancy Warren, 25 April 1865
April the 25th/65

Dear Wife
You are perhapse anxiously waiteing for a letter, and so am I, and if I dont get one to day, I will mail this and send it kiteing Homeward. I expect the news of the surrender of Lee and Johnson induces the people to think the war over, and expect the Soldiers all home soon I hope such may be the case but will not allow my feelings to get to high least it proves untrue. It seems hardly possible to me that it should be closed so soon.—yet I shall not be surprised to learn of Peace at any time for the Rebbels are whiped badly. Yet it will take some time to account for Ordinance and put things in shape, so the soldiers can leave. Of course they cannot drop evry thing and run. then it is a big thing to wind up, will take time. I shall be pretty well satisfied if we get out in 3 months, if the war is over now. I her the indications are that the Rebbel army in Texas is not disposed to submit and they may join the French in Mexico and fight us some time yet. So you must not allow your hopes to get to high yet least you might get disappointed. Hope for the best but prepare for the worst / Hope this will find all well at Home. I will leave the ballance until the mail comes and see if I get a letter from Home.

10 Oclock and no letter I know dear Wife it is not your fault so I will patiently waite a little longer. May heaven bless you all and keep you from all harm.
