Your very kind letter of the 7th is at hand. Glad am I to heare once more from home and it affords me greate pleasure to answer at this moment, as I am in excellent health and as good spirits as could be expected. You seem to expect me home every day. Well, I hope you may not be disappointed much longer. But I am not started yet nor do I know. when I will start—it seems uncertain / We may come soon and we may not come for some time. I confess that I cant tell. You know just as much about it as I do! Some say we are going to Mexico but I dont beleive it. our time is to near out for that—will come when I can, I assure you. Hope to be at home at the critical time but if I should fail, you must keep a stiff upper lip—Well I am glad you got some money. hope you may get yours from the county fund. You must need it
Well Nannie I have not much to write about. Am to home sick. dont care about any thing down here.—The Arsenal was blown up here by catching fire from an engine. Much property burned and several lives lost. the soldiers all got tight on Commissary whiskey and had a hi old time. I was in camp all day. Could'ent see the go down.
