Henry T. Blanchard to Erastus E. Blanchard, 27 March 1863
Camp Sedgwick Va. Mar. 27th 1863
Dear Father
I was very happy to receive a letter from you to night and also to hear that you were enjoying good health. I am glad to hear that you are progressing so finely and hope that you will be even more fortunate than you expect. And as to the stove &c if when I arrive safe and sound at home you still entertain the same wishes I shall be very happy to assist you in whatever manner I can. Although we are not quite as busy at present as you and Uncle Charles are, there are very conclusive / signs that we soon shall be. When the weather permits now the army work daily on fortifications, as Brandy Station is said to be the future base of operations. That is if Gen Lee sees fit. for you know we some times move in accordance with his wishes. The whole Army feel confident that L't. Gen. Grant will give Lee a hand full this spring. Gen Burnside is preparing an expedition for some place, probably where the Jhonnys would just as leif he would not come. It does not seem that the war can last more than a year longer. Time will tell. We had a gay old snow storm last week and the way snowballs flew was a caution. About 40 in the / Regt are going around with one or both of their eyes bandaged from the effect of it. But I am affraid you will be weary now before you finish reading this so I will close.
Accept my love.
Write soon
From your affct. Son
Henry.
