Annapolis Jan 4th 1862
Dear Friends
I received your letter last night I am well and hope this will find you the same we are not on board yet we have had some trouble about going with the expedition but we shall go yet I think Willard bad luck in earnest he must feel the blues now he has lost old John that is two to bad when did Sarah come tell Christine to give my respects to John and keep a few for herself. I have met her quite a number of times but thinking she did not know me and did not think it worth while to make myself known to her and so I let it go. there is quite a lot of men arrived here from home to work for the governement we are to be payed of to day if you see Sarah tell her that I would like / to have her write and the rest of the folks. we went out to on a brigade drill yesterday we had a first rate time it snowed last night for the twice since we left home but hardly enough to cover the ground we are at work all the time and get pretty tired nights I am in a hurry if you see Walter tell him to write
no excuses to make I must close
good bye utl next time
Yours ever
Penn
My love to all
