(I made a mistake read 3rd page next & then 2d)
I cannot find time to write to all my friends therefore when you write to Boston Springfield Groton &c let them know where I am and what up to what about the watch and the brook. Give my regards to all neighbours and friends tell Walter how things come on I would write to him but we are buisy all the time. Some of those chaps at home that are always saying why dont the Army move ought to be here at the present time In my opinion the President has got to call for a host more men before the rebellion is crushed a large army will be used up yet we have about 60 guns in our regt at the present time. I went down to the stream before I commenced to write and washed some clothes but I / had to lie low as the Minnies flew thick about our heads the rebel sharp shooters pop at us I wish when you send me a paper you would put in a little grated nutmeg or something of the kind in a little paper as we at times draw dried apples and it will improve them our Div Gen name is Ludley [Ledlie] Peirce commands the Brigade were it not for L[?] more would be accomplished and less lives lost but I am not afraid of our Corps Gen Burnside the night of the 17th walked onto the field or near it with the boys in the regts chatting with them as sociable as any common soldier I wish we had more such Gens. The boys in the Company are all well and / send their regards to all. Write often, give all the news you do not know what a treat a letter is. Give my love to all. I did not know until you wrote that Johnathan Parker was wounded I was thinking about going up to see him they the 58 is not two minutes walk from us. the 55th joins on our left send those Photographs if you have not already done so.
