Dear wife I received your letter just now of the 1st and on opening it lo and behold I finde sis looking as natural as a bean and some stamps. so I cant help but write whenever I get a letter if I hante any news to write well Mam I am well and harty I am getting fat I believe i have got big calves on my leggs and sollid I am much heavier than I ever was I dont kno my weight now I weighed 5 or 6 weeks ago 154 i will weigh considerable more now but it takes my money rather fast to live well here / I cant stand the temptation of pies cakes apples potatoes and good things generaly as long as I have money if that is goan then I can live on Uncle Sams grub for we have plenty of it You say you want another picture I will get one next week if we are here I expect we will go on outpost Picket soon again then we stay 5 or 6 days the picture of sis is verry good but not as well taken as yours we cant get them kind here this is a poor concern in a tent I will do the best I can I am affraid my coat and things I sent wont get threw I hear they open all Boxes from the army and take out all government clothing if they do curse such government / they wont hall our things we cant carry all we must give them away to the niggers or throw them away Mam I was over to see alf McKiney yesterday and he was here yesterday he is quit a man still and but little to say he is teamster in the 4th Regular Cavelry he has one year to serve yet he sais he is goind to Bucyrus when his time is out and bring Dan a mule he has one of his own a nice one that is the one he is to give Dan
 
2 Oclock our Regiment has all gon a swiming to Stoneriver I was washing this morning at the creek near camp and I washed myself so I did not go the sun is verry hot and lazy folks like shade /
