to day the reports in the papers about Hooker at Verginia is not satisfactery I fear he is whipt there and if such is the case the rebs will send all there spare forces against us to reenforce Bragg it is thought they can send 150 thousand against us if they do I fear there will bee a heavier Battle than has ever fought on American soil Bragg is only 12 miles from us I think there will be something done before long every man in the army I believe has full confidence in old Rosey and will fight under him better than any man liveing
we can stand six months seege here we have as much provision as would cover a 10 acre feald 6 feet deep / and hundreads of 6 mule teams of amunition there is at the depo piles of boxes of crackers as large as D.C. Boyers barn and much higher some may think this a fish story but it is the truth then i dare not write all I kno for fear this might fall in the hands of the Rebs as they sometimes get a maile to se things as they are here would astonish one from home they are now building a foart near our camp—
I am pleased with the prospect of getting a letter every week from you I wont be behind in writeing either our male comes regular now and when on picket it is brought to us
