            Dear Wife once more I will write a few lines to you today we have landed at Chattanooga after a march of 250 miles we struck across to Alpine from Gayleville Ala then up the valey over the Chickamauga Battle field to the foot of Lookout where we stop and have got dinner we have had hard marching we went from 20 to 25 miles a day there is only our Corps came here and the 3d Division has goan on the cars down the river I cant say where we are going there are as usual many repoarts but I think we are going towards Huntsville Ala we I understand are waiting to take the train tonight or in the morning / I expect our Corps will be scattered along the Railroad
 
well I hardly kno what to write as I cant tell all now however we have had a good time we have been liveing off the rich valeys we have lived on sweet potatoes hogs chickens honey and lots syrup I must go and wash my feet and rest a little well the mail goes out and I must finish I was expecting a letter but I cant wait with this there is a 6 mule waggon load of mail comeing on the waggon train it will get here today we have had no mail for a long time the last I sent I put some cane seed I will send more I want to send enough to plant a small patch it is sweeter and / better than our kinde well I was at Dock Tailors tent a few days ago he is verry clever he is harty and fat as a pig I saw James Kelly he is in the 64th OVVI our boys ar all well but hard up for shoes and stockings many have neither I have no socks my clothes are good yet but verry dirty I will close as I cant write on a cartrage box I want you to write if I cant and if I cant get them so soon I will write as often as I can send if we get settled down
