Dear Wife tonight I will write again to you I am well I received your letter of the 14th of Oct yesterday I was verry glad for it was so long since I received one I suppose you are wondering tonight where I am and my condition well I will tell you we are campt in a foart on the banks of the Tennisee River opisite Bridgepoart we are garding the pontoon it is believed we will stay here this winter well I am well provided for tonight I have just finished our house there is 3 of us in it Kanzleiter and John Myers I will describe my building it is 6 by 8 feet I split puncheons set them in the ground on end I split clabboards for roof and daubed the cracks with mud / we have a fireplace and 2 bunks I just finished it this evening all the Oficers have been in to see it every one say that is gay it is the comefortablest shanty in the regiment then I drew a new blouse pants and shoes blanket so I can sleep warm and dry tonight for once as I have not had a night that was both warm and dry for 40 days then we have plenty to eat this kind soldering is not bad if I could get to see you again things is all quiet here we dont do picket duty just gard the bridge and that comes in side the foart all must pass through to cross the river
 
well you say Jef has goan well I wont scold but I would rather he had not goan if he had saw what I have he would not have goan he may not get in the war at all I hope you will write to him and chear him I will when I learn / where he is and the directions now I cant say what you shal do I expect you can manage all right I suppoas your cash is about all I dont kno how soon I will get pay I expect before long if you please let me kno your circumstances are what you have to eat weare how much money if any &c
 
I must say I feel prety well satisfied now plenty to eat and but little to do there are plenty rumors afloat now one is we are to go to Cincinnati to gard in place of some other regiment that has been ordered to the front I dont believe it but we will not stay in front anymore if we should go to Cincinati you must come and stay a week with me and learn soldering well I will ask one thing there is nice fish here I wish you would send me a package of line the small size Brickline as much as 150 feet and about 12 or 15 the largest hooks you can get in town / I want to set a trot line to catch fish you can do them up in a small package and send I dont kno what more to write only this paper is Bucyrus paper and it writes good if you can read this I will write again soon and keep you posted of my doings tell Sis and George to write I will send a ring for Eliza I dont kno if it is large enough it is the best I could do my pease of shell was to small for any larger if not large enough I will try again no more but remain yours
