November 27th 1863
Dear Wife this morning I will write to you again I am well and feel good all over I will tell you why in the first place I got 3 letters yesterday 2 from you and one from Mary Boyer I dont think you will be jelous if I write to the girls and them to me occasionly I am glad you took a trip to Cleveland I want you to take all the enjoyment you can who cares for cost I dont all I regret is I cant furnish more money for you I got $68. I only sent $45. we did not settle our clothing this time the Paymaster said that we are to try and get allowed for our things los in Battle so if we do I wont owe U.S. verry much I have lost 2 blankets 2 shirts 2 pair drawers and 3 pair socks /
now one other thing makes me feel good is this our men are whaleing the rebs from Chatanooga and Lookout Mountain our men are driveing them so hard that they are burning there own trains Night before last they brought past here one thousand 3 hundread prisoners they had 7 thousand more to send such news i like we expect a large lot down today then Mead is on the move I would not be surprised if in less than 3 weeks to hear of the capture of the entire army of Brag and the fall of Richmond and Charlestown if such is the case I fear my old hat will suffer well there was talk of us going back to Louisville or Cincinnati but I think we will stay here this campaign if we should go to Cin I should expect a visit from Mrs Morfoot I dont care / about you seeing things here it is no camp Cleveland there is better accomodations here than we ever had before but no place for a women here still the news comes our men have the old Battle ground of Chickamauga and 10 thousand prisoners well Mam I send another picture I did get some clothes so I have shed my rags it is not verry good but it will give some Idea how I look I think I am more fleshy now than usual I send one to Dave and Violet they want me so bad you enquired about the watch I got it the morning we came in Chattanooga it dont do it stops so I sent it back with our Chaplain Kenady he will leave it at Father Boyers for you take it back and make them fix it for nothing Kenedy also brings the draft for your money at the Bank /
I am rejoised to kno your health is improveing and you have plenty to live on Ida childe to think how Pap can sleep on boards or rails I felt luckey some times to get them but now I have it comfortable I made tick of old corn sacks fild with leaves and have a bunk up from the ground made of clabboards I will send a rude drawing of my house I hope before long to get to a house more to my likeing in old Crawford it is warm here only at night there is some white frost I will close this I would like a few stamps if they would get here I think they may now our mail is getting more regular they have just found where we are I got a letter from Jef since you was there I sent one in return no more
