February 18th 1864
Dear wife I received your letter last night of the 8th it done me lots of good I never received letters more joyful than since my return to the land of war and desolation well I am well and hope you are the same well we have not as plesend wether as we had it rained 2 days and now it is cold and verry windy it is the coldes wether I have experianced in Tennessee and we are illy prepaired Consequently we get some cold but that is nix as long as our noses dont get scabby as yours did I expect you have a hard time to get along I would like verry much to be with you / to cut your wood them cold nights and a beadfellow would come good of a cold night which I trust I shal have the pleasure of enjoying before 16 months pass again
well we are still campt on our hill I dont kno how long we will stay here there is troups passing up every day we are stationed here as gard in this valey there is rebel Cavelry around but they keep prety shy I think they are hunting their deserters more than us I think there will be a great moove before long by the appearance of things my belief is that one more general moove will do the job I dont think we will have the lead this time I think we will be in the rear as Railroad guard I must stop and warm my toses /
well while warming I hear we are to leave hear tomorrow all rite I suppose we go to Cleveland 15 miles farther ahead the rest of our Division is their well we expect to get pay yet today I wont get but little we are to be paid to the 31st of Decem our clothing account will be all settled up to that time I have got nothing since then and wont want much this summer I wont have more than 5 Dollars after my debts are paid but I will have enough so Gibson is home I suppose there was a wedding I suppose there will be another some day I want to attend that one my paper is nearly all so I must close soon if you feel like writing any secrets write there is no danger of but I will get it if I am with the Regiment /
I think my comeing home was bad for you you cant get over it as soon as I expected I have not forgoten the good times I had but it is no use to moarn over the destruction of Jeruselum so I take it cool it seems good for our boys to march they are as lively as a cricket well Man Kies has come up he is looking better than ever I saw him he is heavier then he ever was well I sold that blue fancy shirt for $3.50
I will close this I have wrote so many letter my stamps is nearly all them 2 came good Please send one in each letter then if lost not much loss I will write verry often you do the same
