you wanted me to pitch in for Lt. I cant. I must wait patiently but I think my chance good the promotions from Seargents is or must be by recommend from the Colonel so if McDonald gets back and legs a little for me to Col Kirby it will work I dont fear any of our company if the place is filled from our co I can get it if that should come to pass it will take about one hundread or 150 to rig the boy but 108 a month soon pays well I got a letter from Mary Boyer and her picture I give up beat at my own game
I forgot I got stamps and poetry in your last letter we dont get / mail every day now so I cant tell when to expect a letter I think I get yours much sooner than you do mine but I write often enough to make it up I want to ask your advise how to cook beans we have plenty of them but I cant get the snap cooked out it comes out after eating them that is all about the beans the bugle is sounding I must close for tonight 24th this is another fine day but high wind if you can conveniently buy me a hat I should like one as these US hats are so heavy and hot I wish a dark color like the one I bought for Jef one verry light and soft the size is 6 1/8 you can get it put / up and send by mail for 6 cents I must ask you to trust me until payday comes as I am out of cash—
