28th last night we had a heavy rain I had to get up and cover all over with 2 rubbers the wind sent the rain through our tent roof in showers but all right this morning nice and verry warm well I will send a little box with chain and rings they are the poorest ones I made for when I had a nice one some one wanted it but I am afraid to wait to make others for if we move then it is all over sending I expect our mail will be stopt going north so I will improove my time in writeing yesterday our Co is away again on picket so I had nothing to do I took a walk out in the hills and woods I thought if only you was here with me it is so nice among the pines / then the woods is getting nice and grean and flowers many strange ones to me I can pass a few hours verry well rambling but for a few days past it has been rather hot in the middle of the day to be out of the shade

well about tommorrow we expect McDonald here I fear you cant hear them chears now for it is too hot they will all dry up but I look for some louder chears afterwhile I begin to think that Grant is going to drive the thing rite along I expect there will be some desperate fighting yet but I believe one campaign more will end it I will close now
