            Dear Wife I just received your letter of the 4th and 6th of Sept and I cant rest and be in your debt for letters I found in it one Dollar I tell you if the letters dont come now you was not informed of our march when you wrote you heard we had atlanta and was affraid it was not true but it was for I am witness to that I went threw the city as we came back I saw the effects of our shells every where and the ruins of buildings well I wish I could of been there the 4th and had Sis to jump around and got that big supper oh a big supper I hante saw one since last winter hardtack and poor beef now days we captured slews of cattle on our tramp south these we must eat before they die or dry up /
 
I gues you will think strange of some of my letters but you must excuse me for many were wrote under great trials and tribulations but now I can sit in my tent and write without fear of shot or shell I feel easy if I could get to see you I would like it much I dont kno I saw an order today that furlows may be given now at the rate of 5 per cent that would let about 10 go at one time of our Regt now if I had my pay I would try one but I cant until we get pay for I kno you want money and I must wait if I dont get home atall I have only 11 months yet and if I have to stay it out it will soon pass now if you want to go to the State Fair I say go if you have some body to go along to keep you strait and sober for it is a great place to spree / now you can just go I expect money lots when I get paid and you have been a good girl so take a little pleasure when you can
 
I have but little to do now but expect to commence drill in a day or so more I cant say when I will call around to have this chat perhaps this winter or fall and perhaps in 11 months from now
 
tell George I thank him for the Dollar you nead not send tobacco I can get it as cheap about and I have money now and plenty paper I am going to the city in the morning and try if I cant get some bread some got bread yesterday I am glad you got the paper that little stuf was too easy or soon filed up I like big letters I will close this and write verry often while I can no more now
