Camp near Atlanta Ga
Dear Wife
tonight I will write some again to you time passes dul now since we have quit fighting there is nothing to keep up the exitement I am well and hope you and the children are the same I have but little to do now only call roal 3 times a day and but little writeing anymore we have our back repoarts and musterroals all made out to this time I expect drill to commence tomorrow
Oh I must tell you we got our new flag the Ladys of Sandusky city sent us it is nice silk with heavy range silk fringe in the upper end is a eagle in gold leaf with riseing sun above / and on the red are gold letters of some of our Battles Perryville Stoneriver and Resacca they mite in justice had on Cassville. Pine knob. Kenesaw. Atlanta. Rough and Ready Jonesborrough. &c besides lots of slight skirmishes
well Ma I am makeing some rings again shell rings but of rebel boom shells I will close for tonight
17th noone well we have had poor liveing ¾ rations of tack and verry poor flesh beef but I had a bully dinner the trains were all out forageing 2 they were goan 2 days. Jake Adams messes with us he drives the Headquarter teem he was out he brought for our mess a hind quarter of a sheap and a quarter of a pig and about half bushel of sweet potatoes and we drew a barrel of crout nice spiced and sour from the Sanitary so I got up a bully dinner /
well we have inspection this afternoon by the Brigade inspector so we must brush up I got a new blouse yesterday so I am clean only lousy they are in our blankets I have to boil them and we cant hardly spair them unles they dry befor night the nights are cold and the days are yet hot
well Mam I dont think I will not git to come home this time of furlows the alotment was filed in a day and no more can go until these get back and if we are to have a winter campaign they wont grant any more all right perhaps the thing will wind up this winter so when I do come I can stay they say the furlows are only for 20 days anyhow well we are getting rations again they have come up with a load I have some yet we bought some cornmeal in town white as flour but it is full of worms we make mush of it / after hunting them out then it is poor feed haveing no greas to fry it I think we will get some poark today we have no sines of pay yet but they say we will get it this month yet the 14th A.C. has been paid and their is a Ohio State Agent here to take our money of the Ohio troups I was talking with an officer of the Brigade staf last night about my back pay my promotion dated from the 31st of August 1863 he says I will draw difference of pay between 4th and 1st Sergt that will be 3 Dollars to May 1st from that time I get 24 well we had the flag presented this evening with a long adress from the doners we gave 3 chears for the ladies I gues they dident hear it and the Brigade Band came and played the Star Spangled Banner Read White and Blue and I close and remain yours C Morfoot
