Dear Wife again tonight I write a few lines to you it dont matter if I do write 2 in one day I received a package of paper and envelops and a hankercheif and a letter in it so I have plenty of material to write well today has past and it is dark it has been some noisey today and tonight much so the artilery keeps thundering from the hills especily to the right of us and tonight there is heavy fireing at the river I think it is the gunboats I fear the Rebs are going to cross the Cumberland River if they / should we may have a tramp to Louisville only 200 miles I dont believe they dare attact us here behinde our works and foarts with our heavy siege guns there is heavy skirmishing just now and the 1st Ohio Battery is throwing shells rapid it is in position about 30 roods from us now I will close for tonight no not yet I must tell you we got our box we sent back from Ooltawah last spring so I have lots of blankets I had 3 in it I intend to store them in Nashvill or send them home if I can as I cant carry them when we move but tonight Fred and I have 3 to ly on / and 3 to cover and one for a pillow so I gues I will go to bead my bead is some shingles on the ground to keep dry and a little cornfodder on top this will do for tonight
7th the sun is just comeing up so I will finish I have had my grub I had fryed beef and coffee and a lot of fryed onions we got lots of onions and some crout from the Sanitary well last night was noisey much fireing one of our Regt came in wounded shot through the hand there has been but few hurt yet here well I was going to get a paper this morning to send but I had no small change the news boys are here every morning before daylight we have to pay 10 cts for a paper here / there is great storyes in them about the Franklin fight and about the number of flags captured some have it as high as 19 I wont say for I did not count them nor see all I saw a lot passing on the road next morning
well Mam I must close this and hunt Greybacks they have drill on my back this morning so I will make a charge on them and try and capture some of them I cant wash my clothes here until this get quieted down some
