S. S. Peterman to Sister, 3 September 1865
Fort Scott Kansas
September 3th 1865
 
      Ever Remembered Sister I take my pen in hand to write afew lines to Let you now that I have arived safe in fort Scott on friday Sept. first I did not get to St. Joseph on saturday night as I exspected for we met with an [?] acident on the Rod between chicago & quincy we ran in to a freight train & toar up the track & smased up thing generly but now lives lost or bones broken sow I had tow stop in quincy over Sunday quincy is a large place situated on the eastern banck of the misipy the Remainder was plesant I found alonge emigration coming out two kansas /
I found the boys all well and in good sperits except that their came an order to the post two prepeir to Evacuate the place & move to fort Wrily witch is situated on the Rebublican fork 200 mile west of here the citazen of fort Scott are tring to have the order countermanded for they now it is to their interast to keep the Post here I do not think that the Post will be Evacuated soon soon shold they not suceed in geting the order countermanded shold the post be Evacuated I think I shold stay here this winter eneyhow
 
I bleve have writen you all the news
 
            I shall close on the next Page after making a few Remarks in Regard two the female sex back their &c & /
 
            I give my Respects to all my enquiring friend but fist to the Miss Dity & then to the two Sisters but save a portion for yourself tell the Sisters that i am wating patiently to Receive their Photo Photograph & their is Miss Sasha Bair I had all most forgoton I shall be Hapy to Receive her Photo in Exchange
 
Mr Homes & Byrne are all well I have not had a chance to tell them where their Photo was Probly I shall when I next write
