My Dear Julia
I believe self reproach is often the most [?], & [?] I think, on my neglect in not writing to you for the last three years it is harmful for me to acknowledge apparent want of [?]ly affection when I think of the many trials you have put with I am really ashamed of my coldness. suffer it to say that I have also had my share of troubles tho as yet death was not victor over habitation. I need not my dear sister dwell upon [?] I will know how yr success of [?] and be harmful to you to [?] but I trust our Heavenly Father who knows but [?] of his nature [?] all things work together for yr everlasting welfare & if friends are to be taken away we should not mourn[?] who have no hope
Our son William [?] Nov 1827 took a swelling in his left arm which we thought to have terminated in consumption but the month after it began to come to a suppuration / supperated. He was advised to go to the salt water [?] soon after restored to perfect health. in [?] 1828 John & he purchased [?] his interest in that place ever dear to you [?] by the hand of F. dunmore it was [?] hand, of that place He had made a perfect [?] & I may say this has us all [?] left but [?] shall have [?] to go there to [?]; & before he was seventeen years of age undertook the management of the [?]. [?] & Machenry explained & convinced Mr Machenry of [?], their trade was very dull and they could hardly get a [?], however matters have taken a turn, I [?] now in greater [?]. They are also getting a [?] manufactured called [?] cotton work & linen [?]. I think not a [?], & he is now getting [?] a Mr [?] of [?]. poorly for the last three months but is now somewhat better. The rest of my family are all well I am [?] aunts & is a very [?] Mr & Mrs McClu[?]y are going to County Armagh to live & I [?] to pay them a visit this summer Amos & Molly have not taken out the lease of their place since the [?] of Mr King & Jane says she will not have them till they get a [?] with [?] Uncle [?] is pretty well he works in over a year & he had him here on Monday last early I congragulate you & James on yr removal to a situation so near W.
