Spartan D. Goodlett to Unknown, undated
[fragment]

I refrained from using any harsh words to him as it would not be proper for me to abuse my position What has become of Cicero? Is he ever coming back?

I declare it is awful the way matters stand If Cicero is ever coming back he ought to do so at once

The Captains let things go on any way—first one in command then another

Whenever I am restored to command I intend to have a full set of Field Officers present—OConnell will have to resign as he will not be able for duty—whatever of odium falls upon the Regt I have to bear it and I intend to have proper support in the field officers irrespective of fear favor or affection & / I wish you would hurry Maj Adams on. He has never had a better friend than I have been to him nor one who wishes him better success & now in my trial when the Regiment needs some one to represent it properly I want him. I am still in arrest

Remember me kindly to Dr Hill to your father mother & sister also to Maj Adams & lady Please write me soon

                                                                                    Yours Truly
                                                                                                S D Goodlin
