Dearest Ina
Through the mercy of God I am well Our army has fought Hood 2 days and we ar victorious. and but 1 of the 112th wounded in the hand. To the particulars Yesterday morning long before day the Union army commenced to move long lines of Yanks were ploding through the mud and I judge from the looks of Co A that many had heavy hearts. we expected to charge heavy works our force was massed very / heavy by 11 Oclock down the river on Hoods left, and the Artilery opened then a move was made we found but little works the charging commenced at about 4 Oclock. Todays paper recieved tonight gives the results 1200 prisonors 18 pieces of Artilery 13 head quarter teams which had on one of the wagons Stafford Godphrey. he had been guarding a house near Nashville and was taken prisonor. It is after dark now while writing our Regt was on a large hill and saw a charge that routed Hood tonight 1000 prisonors were taken with 8 pieces of Artilery almost in sight of us. good good / after dark we could hear artilery firing a long way from here. I dont know but the Rebs ar running yet All is Quiet near us this ends 2 days constant and heavy fighting.

Dec 17th It is some time after daylight. have herd nothing of Hood this morning. It rained during the night and still at it. I do not know wheather we will move today or not. I am realy in hopes that we will soon have a chance to go in winter quarters. it wont take long to dispose of Hood unless he gets reinforcements. The papers and prisonors state that Hood had but 32 pieces of artilery and he has lost / in the past two days 26 An army can do but little without artilery The cold that we had a few days ago passed off 2 days ago. it is not cold now. I will close as I may not have a chance to send this.

We have just started after Hood

                                                Good by your
