Head Qurs 31st Ind Infty
Huntsville Ala Feb 8th 65

            Dear Sister
Yours of the 1st inst is at hand. I take this opportunity to answer I was glad to hear of Taylors health being better for I have feared that he would not get over his spell as frequently persons of his disease go down gradually

My health is not good of late pretty much as I was when I taught School at Harrodsburgh However I think I am better of my cough to day havent been seriously sick but puny

We are having some cold weather for this country to day is a very cold day and snowing a little Troops camped at this place / have good comfortable Quarters and no probability of moveing from here soon dont se what we could if we should move for all the other Corps have left the Department 16th Corps has gone to Mobile and the 23rd Army Corps has gone east Thus you se our Corps is alone to defend Tenn

Everything seemes favorable for peace now and if the confederacy does not soon yield their entire army east will be captured making further efforts on their part useless because when the rebel Army at Richmond is destroyed their all is gone my calculations are to be at home for good at furthest by the 1st of November dont se how I will be disappointed / in my calculations the war cant possible last longer than 6 months

I had not heard of Nancy Judah meeting with her misfortune I consider it a real pity for her. So Wine has got married, I am of your opinion he may have a wife but I know she has no husband Sure

Dave Hackney is driveing a team but is going to come and stay with me in a few days Alfred Femard is in good health and is well satisfied makes a good soldier. I saw Dave Hackneys Brother at Nashvill he belongs to the 93rd Ind he has growed to be a large man third larger than Dave I will close Give my regards to enquiring friends and write when you can
