Currysville April 9th 1865
Dere father and mother we take this oppertunity of writing you a few lines to let you know that we are all well at presant and we hope these few lines may find you Injoying the best of Helth.
Daddy as we have not herd from you for a long time and we cant bost ove writing eather so I thought I would jest send you a few lines to lern how you all are and how times is in your Cuntry &c. times is still dull here but I hope the prospect is for the better the Conection and friends are all well here so fare as I know.
we have been putting off writing for some time on the acount of the Drauft expection it to go off for some time and it has not went off in our Township yet as we have mad oup our Coto all except to men so I quess our Township will not be Drafted this time.
Richard Smith had a little bad luck the other day he went to Terrehaut the 28 day of March on the cars with the expectation of being Exempted and had in he or putting in a Ripresentive as the Township had made oup a bounty ove three hundred dollars a pece for for ech Drafted man that would haft to go and that wasant money enouf to clear the Township or hier Volenteers and the Township met and a greed to let men taket the of the money and hier riprsentives which Cost a bout Five hundre dollars / they had put in Eight men and they five to put in as Ripresentive or pay pay the same for Volenteers and Dick concluded he would if he couldent get off he would take the money and add the ballance to it and put in a Ripresentive wich would clear him for one year if he was Drafted
and as he was walking off the Cars in to the Depo he had Two hundred and Twentyone dollars in money and Ninty three dollars and fifty cents in County order stolen out off ove his Pocket hit all a mounted to Three hundred and a bout sixteen dollars he mist it in a few minits after it was taken but he could not find the thief so no more a bout that.
this has been a verry wet spring here the peple have not Plud any yet neather for oats nor corn or but very little wheat looks verry well here genrley
