Dear Brother
I Received your ever welcom letter of the 18th in doe time and was pleased to here that you wair all well and in good health and having a fiew moments lesure I imbrace the presant opportunity of answering it But Tom I have no news of aney importance to write you at presant as the armey is still laying still and all is quiet along our lines as far as I am able to lern. the Rebs are as thick as bees on the other side of the River and plane to be seen from our camp. the Balloonist reported / some three hundred thousand some five or six days ago and reinforcements still coming in dayley. I suppose they have four men to our one. if I am not mistaken they will give us battel befor long but I hope not for I have sean fighting anough for my part. We had a Jeneral inspection this morning but for what purpus I do not know. But it is the report that the cleanest and best Brigade is to be garrisoned if such is the purport I think the Old Jersey Brigad will stand a good chance our worthey and estemed Brigadire Jeneral (A.T.A. Torbert) has bin very sick. But he came over to see us this morning and complimented us and invited the officers all to appear at his headquarters in full uniform
Thomas I have not forgotten about coming to see you yet and I may get up by the 1st of April yet. But I cant come at presant I am working a littel for my own interest while I have a chance and I think it will be all right yet.
I am glad to here you are goying back on the old place for I think you can doe better there than on many places that is rented. I have heard that Sam is goying to try his luck I hope he may doe well I have not heard from Tompsons cince last December nor from Sam cince January I suppose they have forgotten me or something elce for I have writen often to them but received no answers and I declare I will not write again untill I doe. But I muste bring / this to a close hoping to be excused for the maner in which this is writen for it was don in a greate hurey. I am still well and in good health and hope this will finde you all engoying the same blesing.
with my love and best wishes to you and Rachel and your famley I remain as ever your Brother and well wisher
