Dear Brother
Your ever welcom letter of the 8th came to hand in do time. was glad to here from you. had began to think you had forgotten me. But having a fiew moments lesure I availe myself of the opportunity of answering it without delay although I I have no news much of any importance to write at presant as there is nothing of any acount goying on here in our department. there has bin some fighting down at Kelleys Ford, but we have had no hand in the afare / there has bin heavy firing in that direction for the last foure or five days but it has raised but littel excitement here. the gurrilas have mad severel rades in our rear and caused some littel excitement. they have ventured as fare as to fire in the tents at head quarters, and have captured one Signal post three times since we have bin here. we are getting a littel mor cautious of late we have bin sending out Pickets for a while back and have captured a nomber of the band. we have but littel of that to do it keeps us all the time doing Provost doty in the town and at the depot. I am having very good times of it the regiment is all / the time on doty and I have nothing to do but stay in camp and attend to the regimental detaile. I am in hopes we will stay here this fall and perhaps all winter as I do not think there will any thing be don about these parts this fall. the news from the South and Southwest are very favourabl and chering I think it will not be long befor we here of the fall of Charleston and many other places of great importance It is my opinion that old Jeff and the rebelion is boath about played out.
there is a great number of conscripes coming to the Armey but non for us I believe they are not goying It to fill up the 1st 2nd & 3rd Regiments on acount of there times being so near out
I believe I have no mor to write about at presant I am well and in good health and sperits hoping this will find you as it leavs me I remain as ever your Brother
