Dear Brother
I received your ever welcom letter some time since while on the march so I did not have a chance to answer it. Glad to here from you and that you waire all in the engoyment of good health and sperits, it finding me the same only a littel tired and stiff the affects of long and hard marching for a month and five days Some days we would march as high as twenty five miles and some / not more than four or five Some none but lay in line of Battel all day and night which was harder still than marching but we have got through with it and still living and doing well, laying off in Camp nothing to doe but eat sleep and stink for a short time if not longer But oure eating material has bin rather hard for some time for we have had to eat hard tack for about two months, and them as wormey as the devel. But we have got the Raile Road in runing order again and expecte to get soft bread in a fiew days. Great will bee the rejoysing amongst the Soldier Boys when it comes. And still greater will bee the rejoysing in our Brigade when the twenty eight day of May next comes, thoes who live to see it. May all thats left of us. / It is the opinion of a great many that we will bee Discharged this winter, but for my part I can hardly think it, hoping at the same time we may, for I think I could live as comfortable at home this winter as on the sacret soile of Virginia or amongst the F.F.V.s—
I have spent three long summers and two winters in this godforsaken place, and think I could appreciat a fiew short months in old Warren and its vicinity.
But I must come to a close for this time as I have no news of any importance to write, and of noncence I have writen too much already
So hoping this will find you all as well as it leaves me. I remain ever very respectfully yours
