Dear Brother
I received youre welcom letter of the 4th inst last evning and was much pleased to here from you and that you waire all in the enjoyment of good health and sperits. I should like to see the Angel about now I think I could have my own fun. I am surprised to here they have a young dughter for I hardley thought they waire eather capable of making a girl, but as the / old saying is a blind hog will find an acorn once in a while but I havent time to write much nonsence so I will dispence with it. I have no news of any importance to write at presant, and not much time to do it in. So you will pleas excuse this short and poorley writen note. we are very busey here at presant and have bin for some time, putting up abatteses in oure front we have them up in the rear of oure pickets & are now putting up a line of them in front the pickets to prevent them from surprise / Oure pickets waire attacted last night or this morning rather but the Joneys found us alive and doing this time about a weeke ago they tried the same thing and captured a part of our line I lost foure out of oure Company all old Vet of Co 'D'. Give my respects to Thatcher and tell him I am getting along very well at presant You spoke about sending a box of eatibles. I will give you the directions and they would bee quite a treat as oure rations are rather short this winter some how but Tom I doant want / you to go to any expence for me or on my acount for I suppose you all have enough to do to make all things meet thies hard times but if you feel yourself able to do so I will thankfuley receive them, for my appietite is not very strong & fat pork and hard tack dos not relish very well I tell you some times but am compeled to put up with it. I havenot had any pay yet since I renlisted but expecte to get paid off in a week or so. nothing more this time but remain as ever youre Brother
