            Dear Brother
It is with plesure I now take my pen in hand to inform you that I am still in the land of the living—I suppose you think I have forgotten you, as I have not writen befor this, but I have not, and should have writen long befor this but I have not bin able and am not yet, but I thought I would try and scrach you a fiew lines to let you know how I am getting along. I am some better than I have bin but fare from being well yet. I have bin down with the Erysepilas I was taken right after I got back but I have got / over that prity much. I still have that braking out. it has bin very bad but is a littel better just now the Doctors cant tell what it is but think I am poisened by drinking bad water. I was to be examened last week but it did not come off as the Doctors have had  great deal of amputating to do of late we have a great many bad cases now from slight wounds this warm weather. the Gangreen has got in them and a great many have died with it. The weather has bin very warme here for a fiew weeks today it has bin very plesant and we are having a fine shower news is very scarse here I can hardley find Items enough to fill this page but I will try to scribble off something. I do not think that I will get to the front again this fall, and maby never for the Doctor / thinks I am in a bad condition he shakes his head every time he examens mee he stoped my medison for about a week for fear it would kill me, but I am taking it now again for the last week. he gives me nothing poison as yet, but it doant appear to do me much good—I think likley I will try and get up home again the last of next month if I get paid the last of this. give my respects to Jane & Tomps and tell them I will write when I feel more lik writing than I do now & tell Lib I will write to here as soon as I can think of something right that is apropiate for the occasion at presant I can think of nothing—

well I must stop this scribbling for this time. with my love and best wishes to you all. hoping to here from you soon I remain Yours as ever
