My Deare wife I will drop you a few lines to let you no that I am well an I hope this may find you an all of the famley the same My deare wife I have nothing new to write to you only we are smoked as black as a negro an that dont suit me but I am willing to put up with all of that rather than be runover by the yanks I want you to go to Capt Wood an tell him that I sent up my furlough on the Paper that you got from him but we had to leave James Island an it got lost an tell him to give you a nother one if he Pleases an tell him not to get werred / by so doing for youre old man has bin in the war too years an six months an I want you to sho him this letter an get the Paper an send it to me rite a way an when you write direct youre letter to lake City Floridia an put on the letter col qualls Brigade I will close by saying I remain youre love untill dath
