John M. Tate to Samuel M. Tate, 15 February 1864
Raleigh Feby 15—64
Dear Saml
I see your Q.M. in town and drop you a note by him.
You were misinformed as to Aunt Susan's being in Hillsboro—your letter to her was fwd to Morganton and I presume has been recd ere this.
I hope you have written to me to Va I expect to leave here tomorrow or next day for my command. Have been here on duty, getting clothing &c for our Brigade. I have been informed that your Regt will probably be ordered to the west. Hope it may, as you no doubt / would enjoy it. I hope tho' you may return to Va and that I may get to see more of you than heretofore.
Dr Cain and Sister would be pleased to have you make them a visit (if only to spend the night as you go up) while in N.C. Sister spoke of writing you, but did not know your address.
Write soon, if you have not already written.
Very truly
Yours
John
