Dear Father Mother and Sisters
                                                                                                            I take my pen once more to write a few lines to you to let let you know that I am well hoping these lines will find you all well I received a letter from you last satturday dated May the 7th I was on guard that day and Sunday I went to Sunday school and to church and Monday Horace Mintania arrived here from Oceola he is here at this time I am going to try and get my likeness taken to day and send / it with him he will take it or send it to Westunion I was glad to see him I also got that Afton paper I suppose you sent it but you said nothing about it I have not heard from F yet and Jasper left here last thursday
 
Horace came with Captain Staniker's wife we have no news of importance at this time only we are on guard every other day O yes girls there is some nice flowers here Sunday morning I was in town and I seen roses red and white Peony tulips &c &c every thing looks well here at this time time well I must go to town 
 
well I have been to town and had my likeness taken and I will send it by H Mintange he is living in Oceola he will take it or send to Isaac Birds at West Union well Mother I was shaved this morning for the first time since I left home and I tell you I look huge I was on guard yesterday and I will be on again tomorrow O yes I got a nice bunch of roses this morning while I was in town a young lay lady gave them to me Joe and I both had our uglies taken this morning and we will send them to gether Mother mine is for you tell Hannah that Maranda has one of mine that I sent her from St louis if she will write / she may have it for I think Maranda does not want it now that she is married and I have a notion to marry some day if I live I paid 1.50 for the picture I had taken to day I have very few letters for a long time and I believe I no news of interst to write at this time I have two or three papers here that I will send you and I should like to have an Afton paper occationaly I have a notion to write the editor a letter after a while please write soon no more but remain your ever affectionate son & Brother
