Friend Dwigh
                        I wish you a merry Christmas your No 7 was the last letter we have received from you and this is our No 10 we are as well as usal and hope these few lines will find you the same we had a sleigh-ride last night and we went to Jefferson and I had a real good time and I guess the rest did too but I dont know but you would like to know what I got for my Christmas present I got a quarter of a dollar in silver and a pair of Mittens and a hat and I want you to write and tell me what yours was 
 
I wish you were here out of danger to spend the holadays with us and Eddie got my stocking this morning and hung it up and put a little piece of candy about a half of a inch long and a cold potato. did you get any thing as nice as that. Mr Pierce has heard from Arthur and he is getting better and they are in hopes he will get along now. Rhoda Phelps was married last week she married a Blacksmith of Jefferson I dont know what his name was I guess that is all. the snow is most all melted of and our sleighing will soon be gone but I am going to leave the gate open to night and see if our thaw wont catch a cold but I will close by signing myself your friend
