Dear Sister
I will now write a line or two but why I know not as there is nothing new to write and I have time to write only a few words. For we know not how soon we may be called uppon to march. We are under orders to be ready at a moments notice and we have three days rations in our haversacks the order came at eleven oclock last night We had to turn out and pack. A whole Division (Sedwicks) went out on a reconnoisance last night also some light batteries and Cavalry If they get into trouble we go to get them out They have found the rebels for two hours this morning there was a continual roar of cannon up the river and I think our gun boats were engaged also but we have herd nothing of the result. I am quite tough now so is Walter Seth is all right and sends his respects Mr Plinney is well. I was over to see Frank Riley the other day he is well and sends his respects. Henry Sturtevant is well he was on guard that day. I expect my box will be on the way soon. they come through all right now. Send stamps tell them when they write as we cannot get them here

I received the Springfield Republican this morning two days earlier than usual I receive the Waverly. We have just drawed a new suit of clothes and as I was going to throw away my old cap I thought I would cut out a piece of the top to show you how near I came to getting hurt it knocked the letter E off and turned the 29 wrong side up bending them it just cleared my head as it whized over but I cannot say cleared it for it did bruise me some. I will write again when I find something to write about

Give my love to all Excuse this. it is hot to day it is now 10 AM I will close
