Dear Sister
I have time to write only a line or two to let you know I am all right and am in hopes this will find you all enjoying good health. The mail goes in a few moments. Well we are again on the move. We are now about 30 miles from Harpers Ferry the whole army of the Potomac are close to us We are halted at this place but shall probably start again to day Gen Burnside & Seigel have been getting into the rebs on ahead of us We arrived at Snickers Gap just in time to prevent the rebs from crossing through and getting in the rear of Genl B & S We drove them back Ashbys Gap is just ahead of us. This is / a fine country through which we are now traveling I saw the P— boys in the 18th the other day. J Jordan is dead he died of his wounds F Churchill has not been herd from since the fight at Manassas Rufus W— is at Point Lookout shot through the ear J Ripley is very low of his wounds he was shot through the left breast in the Manassas fight and will not live Seth and Walter are well and send their respects to all I cannot stop to write much as we may have to move in two moments. the people through here are all rebs but their property is protected two of our brigade I think will be shot for killing a sheep yesterday morning belonging to one of the rebs. We are bound for the rail road at Manassas / I never saw the time when things looked as prosperous for closing this up as at the present time Everything is on the move Sergt Jenks stoped at B— Heights to look out for the things of the Com that were left he has had a very lame leg.
